This Ford Model A started its racing life as the #48 coupe, but was rolled in a crash and then retooled with a 2-door sedan body, hence the strange roll cage layout. Roland Crocker, a specialist with the new flathead Ford V-8 engine, did most of the work at his gas station in Salina, KS, where the car sat when it was not being drive by “Hot Shoe” Jack Petty. Petty set a one-lap dirt track record with the car at Plaza Speedway in Junction City, KS.
