This car is dubbed “The Model “A” That Could”. It is one of four Model A-powered racecars built by owner Pete Aardema and machinist Kevin Braun. The driver was Scott Goetz.
The A’s engines have run with a pair of Subaru heads and a Brodix Chevy head modified with a SOHC. This head is one of two built. The engines have run in a streamliner, lakester, roadster and competition coupe. The team set over 15 records at Bonneville and El Mirage that are still standing. It’s still home of the World’s Fasted Model “A”, at 240 mph. Built in 2009 with two Subaru cylinder heads welded together and installed on a Model “A” engine block
A twin cam three-valve dropped in cylinder head was built. Set a number of records at the Bonneville Salt Flats and El Mirage Dry Lake:
In all, the Aardema-Braun team set over 20 records with Model “A” engines. They are all still standing as of 2016. |
