| Description :
Mickey Thompson, legendary race car mechanic, designer, promoter, and driver whom had raced multiple versions of Pontiac engines in drag racing and Bonneville saw potential to develop the four into a racing power plant. It is essentially a 389 cu. in. V8 cut in half and destroked to 180 cu. in. with special hemi-cylinder heads and GMC 4-71 supercharger. It went 230 mph in the standing mile and 163 mph (9.50 seconds) in the standing start quarter mile. | |||||||||
