Description :
Updraft carburetors were always preferred on Miller (and later, Offy) fours. They could be tucked in close to the crankcase to give a narrow profile, while downdraft carburetors would have to be mounted on a manifold extended out to let the carburetor bodies clear the valve covers. For marine applications, upward-turned scoops would typically be fitted to the carburetors to direct engine backfires up and away from the bilges.
