Description :
The Chalmers brothers built this 6 cylinder prototype engine in 1912 using a 1913 block. The Chalmers engine was the first American manufactured DOHC engine, as it features cylinder heads with hemispherical combustion chambers. This unique engine competed in the first ever Pikes Peak Hill Climb in 1916. Fred Junk drove the number 6 automobile to a victory with a winning time of 23:04.6 minutes. The second event, held later that day, featured the same car with a different driver. E.A. Walden failed to finish the race.
